WM Recorder is a powerful, long-standing Windows stream capturing utility created by Applian Technologies that records streaming video and audio directly from the internet. Unlike general screen recorders that simply film your desktop pixels, WM Recorder downloads the actual media stream packets directly to your hard drive, ensuring a flawless digital copy without slowing down your computer. Core Recording Modes
The software operates through four distinct capturing mechanisms, allowing it to adapt to various website configurations:
Adapter (ADA) Mode: Monitors your network card to intercept and download audio or video data packets automatically as they play.
Proxy (PRO) Mode: Routes your browser’s traffic through an internal proxy to accurately trap hard-to-find stream links.
WMX Mode: Opens a dedicated browser built directly into the program to playback and strip media from tricky pages if standard network modes fail.
URL Mode: Allows you to copy and paste a direct streaming address into the program manually to begin an immediate download. Step-by-Step Guide to Recording Streams 1. Setup and Mode Selection
Open the software and select your preferred capture mode (Adapter or Proxy mode are recommended for automated capturing).
Toggle AUTO ON if you want the program to save clips immediately upon detection, or keep AUTO OFF if you want to preview links first. 2. Open Your Stream
Launch your default web browser and navigate to the video or audio broadcast you want to save. Start playing the media file. 3. Capture the Link
If AUTO ON is active, the software will automatically display the source URL and begin downloading the stream immediately.
If AUTO OFF is active, look at the Captured Streams window. Select the detected clip name from the list and click Download. 4. Manage Real-Time Options
Preview Content: Right-click the file while it downloads and select Preview Mode to play the file from your disk while it is still recording.
Rename Output: Click Options and choose Rename Recording to change ambiguous streaming link titles into recognizable titles before the process finishes. 5. Stop and Save
For fixed-length movies, TV episodes, or files, the program recognizes the end of the packet data and terminates the download automatically.
For continuous live webcasts, right-click the file name inside the active Recording window and select Stop Recording.
Click on View or navigate to Saved Recordings to quickly access your completed media files. Advanced Tools: The Built-In Scheduler
If you cannot be at your computer during a live stream or broadcast event, you can program WM Recorder to operate autonomously: Click Menu and choose Schedule Recordings.
Input the exact stream URL, time, date, and expected duration of the broadcast.
The scheduler will turn itself on, launch the connection at the precise time, record the stream, and close out automatically.
